Why yes, I am for animal rights. I don't believe it's ethical to abuse or mistreat animals any more than I think it's right to mistreat people.
However, I am against an organization that... -condones terroism and acts of sabotage by its members -trivializes the Holocaust by comparing it to animals on feedlots -harasses people on the street for wearing fur/etc. -targets children with misleading propaganda, often employing scare tactics, about milk consumption, fishing, et al. -obstructs medical research by raiding labs -fails to inform the public about the risks of a vegan lifestyle, instead electing to spread lies about milk consumption causing bone loss, myriad health risks associated with animal products...never mind that there have been children hospitalized with rickets, thanks to PETA's wonderful vegan diet, that apparently cures everything now -boycots shelters for euthanasia, when they themselves euthanize many animals that come under their care -consider owning a pet a form of extortion (thinks we're extorting bees for honey too!) -I'd list more, but if you watch Penn and Teller's episode on the organization, it speaks for itself. Yes, I'm against cruelty. No, I do not, nor will I ever, support PETA. |

Animals have rights too. But those rights aren't supposed to override the rights of human beings who benefit from animals the same way animals benefit from us. And I'm not anti-vegan...I just don't think a child should be put on that diet, and I wish they'd let people know that they'll need to find another source of protein, calcium, etc. Yes, I'm a meat eater myself, but to each his own.
There are so many better ways to campaign for a cause than violence and scare tactics.
